Q: How do you like your mini cooper?
Hi, I am getting ready to buy my first car, and I am thinking about getting a mini cooper. What are the pros and cons of one. I hear that they have good gas milage, but get stuck in the snow really easily. Any comments would be great!

A: Thy just came out with a MIni Cooper SUV type of car so that wouldn’t get stuck in the snow.

As for my 2003 Mini Cooper, LOVE it….bought it used with 80k miles a few years ago (for $9,000) and it’s the best 2nd run around car ever…..ever….ever…..that style will never go out of style, She’s darg green with a white roof and black leather interior, 5 speed trans….now has 93K miles…. I love it….I love the 5 speed. I’d recommend a Mini Cooper used from a dealer as the brand new ones are way too expensive, in my opinion.

A: I can’t quote numbers but as a rule it is far cheaper to trade in and buy the car you want.

Q: Where is the iat sensor located at on my mini cooper?
I have a 05 mini cooper s and the code that is throwing up is my iat sensor can some help me locate it. My eml light started coming on as well do u know if the iat sensor caused that too?

A: On the intake manifold, at the right hand side as you stand in front of the engine. The plastic shroud hides the sensor

Q: Mini Cooper S chrome grille. How to paint it matt black without removing it?
I have a British racing green 2002 mini cooper s with chrome details and a chrome grill at the front and i would like to paint it matt black without removing it. I also may paint other chrome parts in matt black i.e. the beltline. What product and solution do you recommend?

A: Go to auto paint store. They have the primer, if you need it.
Unless you have seen a car just like yours with black chrome, may I suggest you buy about 2 or 3 dollars worth of black electrical tape, or similar and apply. This is to make sure you are going to like the finished job. Leave it on for a few days, just to see if you still like it. Show it to your friends. You only have to do one side of the car, so it’s easy to compare.
As a matter of fact, you may wish to use black tape on the belt line chrome, instead of paint. You can do the job in a few minutes, with no mess.
Also check auto parts store and see what other kind of wider black tape they have. You may decide to tape all chrome, which means easy removal without damage if you decide to sell.
If painted, it will lower resale value.
Thinking outside the box, go to http://stores.ebay.com/Paper-Street-Plastics/i.html for HUNDREDS of different kind of tape, and VINYL WRAP. FYI vinyl wrap is what they use to wrap whole race cars and semi trailers with graphics, and it’s not expensive. How about doing your chrome with black carbon fiber tape 2″ x 25 feet for $9.99.

Q: When burning a CD to work in a car (Mini Cooper) on itunes, do I select MP3 or Audio Quality?
I already burned one in MP3 format, not sure if I messed up. Will it work in a mini cooper? I think its an 07.

A: idk what cd player your car has but many cars wont play mp3 cds but yours is newish so it might. i had an 05 lincoln and it would only play cds burned in normal cd format.

Q: What car seat would fit a mini cooper 06 park lane?
my son is 9 months old and is out growing his infant carrier car seat which i got with a pram i bought. So i have been looking at the next stage of car seats 9months-4years but i don’t know which car seat would be best suited for my mini cooper. I like the Britax King Plus Felix but i am not sure if it is suitable for my car. Can someone please tell if this car seat is suitable if not wat other car seat can i get? Thankyou

A: Can’t tell you but if you go with the car to a Halfords or a Mothercare they will be able to advise you.

Q: What is the difference between the types of Mini Coopers? Hardtop, Clubman, John Cooper Works, etc?
I know someone knows something about Mini Coopers. I am looking to buy one soon, but I just want to make sure I have all my facts straight first.

A: There are three body types:

The basic hatchback version.

The convertible.

The Clubman, which is like a small wagon, with a third door (hinged at the back) on the right side, and dual doors rather than a hatch, for the rear.

Each body type is available in the three stages of tune: Cooper, Cooper S and JCW.

In the USA, all Mini’s are Mini Coopers (in the rest of the world there are non-Cooper Minis, including diesel engines).

The Cooper is the basic Mini. Normal engine, without turbocharging.

The Cooper S adds a more powerful turbocharged engine (in current models, or supercharged in the previous generation cars), plus other differences with transmissions, suspension, trim, etc.

The JCW is a Cooper S on steroids, with more power, stiffer suspension, etc.

Q: Advice needed – Parents with newborn that own MINI Cooper?
Parents of newborns/young children that own a MINI Cooper: Is it a pain in the butt to get your child in and out of the car seat in the back? If anyone has a Britax Roundabout I’d love to hear about that as well! Thanks!

A: Yes it’s a pain to get the car seat in and out of the back of a MINI Cooper. But I do have lot of clients that are getting a MINI anyway. If you’re not in a rush to get a MINI, wait untill the 2008 MINI Clubman comes out later this year or early next year. It will more suit your needs as a family car, and still be a MINI ;)

Q: Anyone know where i can buy curtains or bedding with mini cooper designs?
My son is mad on mini coopers,i’m looking for bedding,curtains,etc for his room…any ideas?

A: try ebay…they have a lot of different bedding items….i bet they would have that

Q: Did the Electric Blue Mini Cooper ever come in a convertible?
I am interested in Mini Coopers. But, the only color I’m interested in is Electric Blue and I want a convertible. I haven’t been able to find one on Craigslist or Carsforsale or AutoTrader so I wasn’t sure if that specific color was ever made in a convertible. I know the actual color was made but I’m not sure if it was made as a convertible. Thanks!

A: The electric blue was limited edition I believe. They only made it in 02 and 03 (I think) They do make a bright blue now but its not the original 2002 blue that I am guessing your looking for.

Q: Does a Mini Cooper have a back seat?
I am thinking of buying a Mini Cooper, I have kids. They will not be in this car much but I was wondering if it had a back seat. I need a car seat to fit plus another kid. In a rare situation, I would like it to fit 2 12 year olds plus a car seat in the back. Is this possible?

A: yes, it is surprisingly large (for a Mini), but I would not want to go on long journeys as the seats are narrow and VERY upright.

This also assumes you aren’t talking about the convertible

Q: Would anyone recommend a Mini Cooper as a car?
I’ve been looking into several small cars and I’ve narrowed down my search to 3 cars: (1) Mini Cooper (2) Honda Fit (3) Honda Civic. I’ve done a lot of research on all three cars but I’m really leaning towards the Mini. I just want to make sure it’s worth it. If anyone owns one it would be great to hear what you think of yours! A: Mini Coopers have a cult following, people who own them love them…but their reliability is spotty at best. Either Honda is an excellent choice, depending on what you are after, and Honda reliability is #1 (Consumer Reports). Fit is a lot more versatile since it is a hatchback, but Civic is a bit more “refined” (nicer ride), both get comparable fuel efficiency.

Q: Mini cooper extended warranty for airbags?
i have a 2004 mini cooper sport that had the right side curtain and seat airbags diploy just because i was backing up out of a drive way and my front tires went off a kirb a bit. I herd the minis have a problem with the airbags and that mini has an extended warrenty on those, but the little DI*& at the deler dint say anything, who do i conntact?

A: Unless that curb was big enough to smash your side and set off the SRS impact sensors in the rear of the car, I don’t see why the airbags deployed. I was all over the internet doing research on my 04 Mini Cooper S before I bought it, and while I have heard of “random engine fires,” I never heard of any problems with the airbags.

The North American Motoring forums would be a great resource. But there’s nothing in the “stock problems” section even close to your issue.

Q: Is taking a mini cooper to prom weird?
I was going to take a mercedes because its luxurious but if I take a mini cooper its something she’ll remember forever and also ill be closer to her during the date.

A: Do all four tires rotate, does engine run, will it go from point a to point b and will the roof keep the rain off her head?

What else do you need.

The cooper will make a much easier get away vehicle when the prom is over so you can escape the crowd leaving the parking lot.
